Exposed Aggregate Driveways
Exposed aggregate is very popular among our Australian homes. It is considered the king of driveway materials as it provides a seamless surface which blends form and function together. It is as durable as it is versatile. It transforms basic concrete into a long-lasting design statement that and can eventually increase the value of your home.
What is exposed concrete?
Most of the time, the top layer of cement is smoothed off to create an even finish. This produces a clean finish and may become boring and less practical when it comes to traction and durability. But with exposed aggregate, after pouring concrete, the top layer of cement and fine aggregate are removed. This exposes the large aggregate particles like stones and pebbles to create a more attractive surface. This adds colour and texture and improves traction and durability at the same time. This finish is a perfect match for outdoors since it adds grip to the area. It is versatile and would produce a very elegant concrete finish.
A truly versatile material
For our clients, their options are limitless because of the different colours and textures available to create exposed aggregate. Any large stone can be used as well as sand. The different sizes and grades of the elements will create different effects. We can create a glossy finish with the use of a quartz and aggregate mixture to catch lights. To add more effects, coloured glass can also be added to the mixture. We offer neutrals and other bold colours such as emerald green and rose pink. There are so many colours, effects, and textures to choose from to create our client’s desired output.
Sometimes clients come to us without any idea which colour palette and finish would best suit them, so we offer services by A Better Driveway. This finishing is done by washing away the top surface covering the aggregate. It does not need any chemicals or specific tools to remove the surface mortar. With just spraying water on a surface, and a little scrubbing afterwards, the desired output will be achieved by our team. It will be attractive, functional and, most of all, long-lasting.
This finishing is done by exposing the aggregate only after the concrete has set by the use of abrasive blasting. This is best suitable for clients that want a consistent and even exposed aggregate finish. It is ideal for surfacing steep and vertical driveways. However, this method dulls the colour and shape of the aggregate.
With the pavilion finish, an acid solution is used to remove cement around the aggregate. This will result into a more slip resistant concrete with a finer texture finish. The surface is ground down first before applying the acid solution in different depths.
